BYSA is a not-for-profit organization that relies on the help of Board members and volunteers to ensure that each season of soccer is successful!
A huge thanks goes out to all of the past volunteers who helped to make the many tasks even smaller!
We are following the path of many sport organizations with a volunteer program. Each year, we ask that registrants pay an additional $30.00, per family, towards our volunteer program. This is refundable upon working a minimum three (3) hours towards the Association.
There are various things that we would appreciate your assistance with to ensure that everyone has a great time. Some of these things are:
- Team Coaches, Assistants and Team Managers: Coaches to possess some knowledge of the game. No experience necessary. Assistants to back up the coaches and relieve if need be. Team Managers plan snack schedules and refer questions and concerns to division reps and the office of the BYSA.
- Park Opening and Closing- In April the Optimist Park will require some clean up prior to the beginning of the season. Benches and garbage disposals will need to be placed out on the fields. Any garbage etc. will need to be picked up, debris removed so not to endanger our players. Some painting of goal posts, benches etc may be required. Other duties as assigned. In the Fall, or October, the Optimist Park will then need to be cleaned up in preparation of a long winter with no useage. Garbage cans will need to be emptied and benches will be moved for storage over the winter months. Equipment will need to be inventoried and moved up on shelves incase of Spring run off or flooding.
- Routine Park Maintenance throughout the season: Throughout the season, the Optimist Park requires routine maintenance. This includes but is not limited to regular grass cutting (mowing), lining of fields using a paint machine, clean up of debris and garbage from the fields and the green space, stocking of bathrooms, porta-potties, canteen area etc. This is a huge area to maintain and any assistance is greatly appreciated.
- Tournament Planning & the Event- In June the season will come to an end and there will be a tourney and windup for all participants. This is a huge ordeal as there is major planning to be done to ensure this is a success and goes over well for all parents, athletes, coaches etc.
- Player Development Clinics- Player Development clinics will be put on to teach the players skills that they can utilize throughout the season. There will be clinics held for all ages, U4-U6, U7 & U8, and U10+. Volunteers are required to help facilitate the event in coordination with the Board and the office. The use of our competitve players , (BUS), is helpful in the actual managing of all participants and they assist the qualified coaches in teaching skills, drills, and even some tricks!
- Coaches Packages- At the beginning of each season, coaches will be handed out their team rosters to contact players to notify of their first game, divisonal coaches lists so that they can contact a coach in their own division if need be, schedules to keep and to distribute to each player, Health and Medical Waiver Forms that need to be filled out and signed by each parent or guardian and returned to the coach to have on hand at each game should it need to be referenced to in an emergency, t-shirts to be given to each player etc. The office and Board appreciates all the help in putting together and then distributing to each of the coaches on one night as it is an immense job.
There are many jobs to volunteer with and lend your support to the BYSA. None of them require an unlimited amount of time or energy however the job would be alot bigger and more time consuming without the use of volunteers and lots of hands!
If you would like to volunteer for any of the jobs mentioned above please feel free to contact the office at 725-2003 and leave a message as to what you would like to assist with and your availaibility, we would be glad to have your help or answer any questions that you may have.
Also if you have any comments or suggestions we appreciate all feedback!! |
